About The Barn

View original article at Fosters.com The Barn Tavern, despite its rustic carriage house appearance, once housed work horses for the former D. Foss & Son Woodworking Mill. (Click for a larger view) Well before the turn of the century, Dover Landing was a viable working waterfront community. As many as three hundred Schooners and other vessels navigated the Cocheco River to the landing each year. The barn was restored by the Mairs family and opened in December of 1998. Many of the original features have been retained, including; hay feeders, grain pipes, manure trap doors and knob & tube wiring. Four horse stalls were once where the bar is now.
